Potato Eaters

Dog-Eared (But Forgotten)

Potato Eaters

He came to me
in a dream
so dark
that my heart was a bob on a mighty river

He sang out from
the mountains above
he said, "don't be deceived by the ones you love."

I'm dog-eared but forgotten
twist my words and serve them up
on the backs of the broken-hearted
when they rise they'll throw you off.

I thought to cry
but I found
my eyes
had been lost with my heart to the mighty river.

I stood alone
by the thundering sea
he said, "It don't mean a thing if you can't be free."

I'm dog-eared but forgotten
twist my words and serve them up
on the backs of the broken-hearted
when they rise they'll throw you off.

He came to me
in a dream
so dark.
