I Got High

Owen

Tom: C

F G
I got high with an art teacher of mine
C G C
I learned how to paint portraits and landscapes with perspective
F
but I've been sitting here
                G
the better part of eighteen years
C
blank stare blank canvas
G C
I'm in need of a new view
     Am
of some new scenery to render

F G
there's a boat leaving
C G
where it goes, well I don't know

F
I've been buried alive
G C
my history teacher by my side
                             G C
lest I forget those mistakes that better men have made
F
the battles fought and lost
G
small victories at what cost?
C G C
the curriculum is dated, my inspiration fading
Am
a slow setting sun

F G
there's a boat leaving
C G
where it goes, well I don't know
C G C
but if it floats i'm getting on
                     Am
with or without you

F
the winds are strong enough
G C
our native tongues will fail us
G C
oh the pleasure I would take
                     Am
in renaming everything

F G
there are boats leaving
C G
where they go, well I don't know
C Am
but it's a chance to see something new
F
will you come with me?
