My Lament

Her Dark Smile

My Lament

Her dark smile is just a mask
She is a terrified little girl
Fearing a stern world outside
Fearing the dragon she might find
On her wretched path of life
A sad tale yet to be told

Her dark smile
Covers her pains inside
Her dark smile
Deceives the greatest minds
Her dark smile
Hates to unveil what hides inside
Her dark smile
Forever in our mind

Can you hear her cry?
She is screaming inside
Can you smell her blood?
The blood she has lost
It's not her knife, that cuts
It's not her wound that bleeds

She fears all daylight brings
Flees in the safety of a dark summer's night
The sun brings her greatest fears
The stars sing of her tears

It's her smile, that cuts
It's her heart, that bleeds
The white dress, she wears
Grows redder every day
It's her birth curse, to bleed forevermore
It's sad to see, what light can't breed
And that all life needs

She is just a terrified little girl
Fearing a stern world outside
Fearing the dragon she might find
