The Times We're Livin' In

Luiza Nis

How are we supposed to keep on
Going when we always seem to find a way to
Turn back?
How am I supposed to keep on
Searching for an answer when you weren’t
Bothered to ask?

Were the preachers and the plagues
Surrounding us all by mistake?
Or maybe God must confess
This world is just an experiment
It turns and ends in detriment
Of everything that stands next

Pretty please, don’t blame me
It’s the times we’re living in
And don’t ask me how I’ve been
Blame the times we’re living in

With all these wise words for free
I’m still not able to see
Or choose which memories to keep
Oh, the times we’re living in

Remember when Lisa fell down?
Three meters trying to reach
A flowing petal you couldn’t catch
I kept it underneath the yellow papers
I was saving for the letters
She thought you’d share

So, have you thought about the work
You gotta do to write those words
And use ‘em for your own best?
I bet you started pointing fingers
To the broken systems
And lovers that couldn’t last

“Come find a way, come find relief
Come take a break from what you
Believe in”
She spoke to me in a hazy dream
Then turn away from all my beggin’

I told her “Lisa, don’t go too far
And if you come back you’d have our
Hearts
But she smiled at me cynically
Just like the day she decided to leave

Pretty please, don’t blame me
It’s the times you’re living in
And don’t ask me how I’ve been
Blame the times you’re living in

With all these wise words for free
I’m still not able to see
Or choose which memories to keep
Oh, the times I’m living in
