The Great Pretender

Human Drama

I am the great pretender
Pretending I can't see

The actor strikes a pose against the script he's given
He blames every hand that ever laid upon him
The clown, white, drips as he tries to recover all he's lost
His heart, his soul he cannot find

I am the great pretender
Pretending I can't see

In solitude he steps toward the waiting arms of a lonely night
It is his life
It is his lover
Boundaries marked by pain
It keeps all passion in his pocket
He buried the love that could not die

I am the great pretender
Pretending I can't see

The comic slaps his side while tragedy sits on his shoulder
Have another drink
The night is so young
While away another chapter waits patiently for it's hero
Who has yet to save a single day
