Sticky Boiled Beans

Ed Rashed

Grandma made the biscuits, Papa made the soup
Mama made the beans and just enough to feed a troop
Sister made the table, just as pretty as you've seen
So what makes me so doggone mean?
Sticky Boiled Beans and biscuits made of stone
A gallon pot of soup with nothing in it but the bone
The sight'll make you sorry, the smell'll make you moan
But I'm very very hungry so leave mine alone

God made all the greens but Mama made them grey
She swears they're not the same ones that we had the other day
You have to clean your plate up if you want to be polite
So what makes Grandma look so white?

Sticky Boiled Beans and biscuits made of stone
A gallon pot of soup with nothing in it but the bone
The sight'll make you sorry, the smell'll make you moan
But I'm very very hungry so leave mine alone

What I wouldn't give now for a great big juicy chop
A heap of mashed potatoes, you know, with the gravy all on top
A cool fresh salad, some old French wine
But don't you know exactly what I'll find?

Sticky Boiled Beans and biscuits made of stone
A gallon pot of soup with nothing in it but the bone
The sight'll make you crazy, the smell'll make you groan
But I'm very very hungry so leave mine alone

Mama tries her best now and you know she means so well
That if I said what's on my mind, I'd wind up in Hell!
Papa'd be the one to kill me, but you know something, I don't care
Say, I wonder what they eat down there - no, I don't...

Sticky Boiled Beans and biscuits made of stone
A gallon pot of soup with nothing in it but the bone
The sight'll make you sorry, the smell'll make you moan
But I'm very very hungry so leave mine alone

Sticky Boiled Beans and biscuits made of stone
A gallon pot of soup with nothing in it but the bone
The sight'll make you crazy, the smell'll make you groan
But I'm very very hungry so leave mine alone

Go and get your own
Leave mine alone
