Now my roots are planted in the ground And spread towards the (center of the earth) My branches reach desperately for the sky My tendrils grasping (far out of our reach) Now we command the oceans The waves and winds propel our vessel's sails No harsh terrain or temperature Can keep us from our grand inheritance Flowers of knowledge have blossomed and bear fruit The seeds they blow (idly through the wind) We ride the currents to the corners of the earth Fated to germinate (sown in virgin soil) And still we're sailing onward Safe underneath the starry moonlit sky No blackened night or scorching day Can keep us from our grand inheritance As they travel unaware of a looming presence Ever thinking no greater force can bring forth their slated demise With brashness they must have forgot The essence of their adolescence And as I approach (closer their) Confidence in self becoming wilted A sudden realization that they are only human And try as they may they cannot control the forces of nature It seems we are not the elite All these resources we lay at our feet They mean nothing in the greater scheme of things We thought ourselves to be All-powerful Ever-knowing But now that we are brought to our knees We crawl at the mercy of Here I write to you offering all I have left please accept my apologies (Will we ever know the purpose of our existence Is it possible one day I'll find where I fit within it all) Now that I'm sinking far out of my league I can see we were way too far over our heads all along (Will we as a people ever learn? Maybe the living could still know A paradise before they reach the benthic) Here I stand with the blood and ink on my hands Penning my will to whomever will receive this (Receive the burden of your consciousness This is your grand inheritance Let it not become corrupted keep your head up) Could it be a gift or a curse? This sentient mind has left all warm nostalgia behind (And to those who receive this The stubborn survivors Please ask yourselves will we ever learn?)
