A guilty thief hung on a cross For crimes that he had done His final moments spent in shame Next to God's own son He cried out for mercy and asked for forgiveness For such a wasted life Jesus looked up and said child today You'll be with me in paradise Jesus carried my shame up calvary's mountain And gave his life on a tree He took the nails, the guilt and despair For a wretched sinner like me He died in my place, now I stand in grace His love conquered every sin And if saving me meant another cross He would do it all over again Well, my life's not all that it should be I fail him everyday But, praise the lord I'm not what I was Before my life was changed Though I was guilty and sentenced to death My Jesus gave his life instead He rescued my soul and cast every sin As far as the east is from west Jesus carried my shame up calvary's mountain And gave his life on a tree He took the nails, the guilt and despair For a wretched sinner like me He died in my place, now I stand in grace His love conquered every sin And if saving me meant another cross He would do it all over again
