Eyes Of A Stranger

The Payolas

Tom: F#

No Stranger To Danger (1982)
A&M/Universal

1.) Verse:

C#m B6 G# min7 (Repeated)

Prominent Bass Line through Verse:

Through C# Minor: Through G# Minor:
G ------------------ ------------------|
D ------------------ ------------------|
A ------2----4-4---- ------2-4---2-2---|
E --2-4---4--------- --2-4-------------|

Instead of the bass going down to the fourth
fret on the bottom string to play the root
of the G# Minor, it stays on the second fret
of the A string and sits on the minor 3rd, B.

Prominent Guiar Line through Verse:

"Clean" guitar with atmosphere effects

   C#m B6 G#m7
e --4------4-4---4-4---4-4-4--4---4----(4)---if----(4)
b --5------7p5---7p5---5h7p5--4---4----(4)---you---(4)
G --6------6-6---6-6---4-4-4--4---4----(4)---can---(4)
D --6------6-6---6-6---4-4-4--4---4----(6)---do----(6)
A ----------------------------2---2----(2)---it----(6)
E --------------------------------4----(4)---reach-(7)

I think I've seen Bob Rock voice the seventh fret on the
heavy E string with the fourth fret barred and the
sixth frets on the A and D depressed, but not exclusively.

2.) Chorus:

C#m G#m F# E (Repeated)

Prominent Bass Line through Verse:

G ------------------------------------------|
D ------------------------------------------|
A ------2----4-4--4-2--------2--------------|
E --2-4---4--------------2-4---4---2-2--2-0-|

G ------------------------------------------|
D ------------------------------------------|
A ------2----4-4--6-2--------2--------------|
E --2-4---4--------------2-4---4---2-2--4-0-|

Prominent Guitar Line through Chorus:

"Clean" guitar with atmosphere effects

     C#m G#m F# E
e --4-4--4---4-4--4---6-6--6---4-4--4-------------|
b --5-5--5---4-4--4---7-7--7---5-5--5-------------|
G --6-6--6---4-4--4---6-6--6---4-4--4-------------|
D --6-6--6---6-6--6---4-4--4---2-2--2-------------|
A ------------------------------------------------|
E ------------------------------------------------|

3.) Bridge:

C#m A B (Repeated)

Bass Line through Bridge

G ------------------------------------------------|
D ------------------------------------------------|
A ------2----4-2-------------2----4-4--2--0---2-2-|
E --2-4---4--------------2-4---4------------------|

Synthesiser Arranged For Guitar, Bridge section of Song

e -12--12---11--9---7---9----9----7-----9p7-----------------|
b -14--14---12--10--9---10---10---7-----9p7----9s7----------|
G -13--13---11--9---8---9----9----8-------------------------|
D --------------------------------------------11s9----------|
A ----------------------------------------------------------|
E ----------------------------------------------------------|

Slightly driven Lead Guitar, through Bridge section
The minor on the C#m for the lead parts is just implied,
I don't bother fretting the minor thirds when doing the
driven guitars

             C#m B A B
e ------------------------------------------------|
b ------------------------------------------------|
G -----------6-6--4-2-------------4-4-------------|
D -----------6-6--4-2-------------4-4-------------| X2
A ------2----4-4--2-0--------2----2-2-------------|
E --2-4---4--------------2-4---4------------------|

The third time this is done, Bob Rock adds a little tritone (b5) bit:

e ------------------------------------------------|
b ------------------------------------------------|
G -----------6-6--4-2-------------4-4-----4-------|
D -----------6-6--4-2-------------4-4------3------|
A ------2----4-4--2-0--------2----2-2-------2-----|
E --2-4---4--------------2-4---4------------------|

The fourth time through the bridge, they don't go back up to
the B, they just go down to the A, cut it short, and then back
to the Chorus:

[End of Bridge-----] | [Start of Chorus-----------------------------|
e ---------------------|----------------------------------------------|
b ---------------------|----------------------------------------------|
G -----------6-6--4-2--|----------6-6-----4---------------------------|
D -----------6-6--4-2--|----------6-6-----4-----------4-4-----2-------|
A ------2----4-4--2-0--|-----2----4-4--6--2------2----4-4-----2-------|
E --2-4---4------------|-2-4---4-------------2-4---4--2-2--4--0-------|
                       |
Feel free to hammer on and pull off on those riffs, such as:

e -----------|
b -----------|
G -----------|
D -----------|
A ------2----|
E --2h4---4--|

Or alternate pick them for clarity--really depends on your setup.

5.) Lyrics

Can I touch you to see if you're real?
Is it nothing this something I feel?
Can my heart take the strain?
Or will it break down again?

In your lips I sense a danger
You've got the eyes of a stranger

Have I been sleeping for all these years?
Is it magic that makes you appear?
When you walked in the room I felt my heart race
But knew I'd been fooled when I looked at your face

In your lips I sense a danger
You've got the eyes of a stranger
In your lips I see a danger
You've got the eyes of a stranger

In your lips I sense a danger
You've got the eyes of a stranger
In your lips I see a danger
You've got the eyes of a stranger

* - It seems that all the lyric engines on the internet
are reporting the second verse incorrectly. As far as I
know, what I've got here is correct.

Awesome song from an awesome band. *
