Tom: G G D I met an old man one morning, in an all night coffee shop Am he looked about as old as time and, the folks around there called him pop D C He said down beside me and winked one eye and grinned G A C Said he thought he knew me the minute I came in Bm Em Am he said I looked like his son, but said that couldn't be, you see he said he died in the summer of 43 D G D And then he got to talking about time and how we waste it and he said [Talking] G Am D Time goes by so quickly we dont notice D Am Bm C Bm the Days they come and then they go G C D G Day by Day they come until its over Em Am D G and then they vanish like the dust upon the snow [Talking] G D Well he looked at me as if he wanted to know if I knew what he meant about the dust upon the snow Am D so I smiled and said i did but I never though about time C I was young and had more than that on my mind G Bm C besides I said I just stopped in for a quick cup Bm Em and im in a hurry because downtown a blondes going to keep me up Em Am D he looked at me and with a whisper said I understand, G D you see I was young once, I havent always been an old man G Am D we talked until I had my coffe down and I said so long and hurried off to town D Am well tonight I thought I would drop in to that coffee shop D C because I wanted to spend a little more time with old Pop Am and then the waitress told me that just 2 weeks C Bm ago the old man went outside and just kinda fell over in the snow Em Am and I remember that old man so well D G its hard to thing he's dead when just two weeks ago today sat down beside me and said [Singing] G Am Time goes by so quickly we dont notice D Am Bm C Bm the days they come and then they go G C D D Day by day the come untils its over Em Am G and then they vanish like the dust upon the snow Am D C G yes they vanish like the dust upon the snow
