well, the things you want to take with you i see in your face.
and the things you left behind are quickly replaced.
a picture may be worth a thousand words to some but only one for me.
tonight is like the night i told you everything and anything.
you know.
but the air's a little cleaner now.
and the cigarettes i quit.

like the way we were.
i held you in my arms.
you were safe with me.
and we would have a good life.

so now i guess there's nothing left to do and not much to say.
and the radio is so useless from the shit that they play.
it seems it's been a little while since smiles were draped across your face.
somehow i think i took for granted that your never gonna change.
i guess this is the time and place for anything.

like the way we were.
i held you in my arms.
you were safe with me.
and we would have a good life.

i liked the way we were.
i held you in my arms.
i whispered in your ear that we would have a good life
