Everywhere A Crisis

Stuart Davis

While the blue ball seeps infection
dismayed we sit and watch
and the racial tension index
rises up another notch
As we wait for our messiah
we're too slow to realize
that the prophets of deliverance
don't wear suits and power ties

When the puppets of corruption
give the sermon on the mount
They preach of loaves and fishes
but there's less each time we count

Chorus:
Everywhere a crisis, one more chaotic seed
when the helpless people multiply
confusion starts to breed
with their magnets on the needle
drunken leaders hold our compass in the air
and there's crisis everywhere

Each night we seek asylum
in our cubicles of fear
our violence in vicarious
as the evening news appears
every woman needs a can of mace
every doorway needs a lock
'till the world's just one big neighborhood
with crack on every block

There's gunfire in the alley
a kid got shot right off his bike
when they called up 911
the operators were on strike

Chorus

No eucalyptus for the Koala Bear
The ozone dies and sunspots flare
Riverwater filled with lead
voices in some hermit's head
lawyers thieving festivals
abductions by terrestrials
a hepatitis outbreak in the mall
this fall

Everywhere a crisis, one more chaotic seed
when the helpless people multiply
confusion starts to breed
over catatonic minion
drunken leaders hold our compass in the air
and there's crisis everywhere
