The Loneliness in Me

Rachel Brooke

Mama called saying: Where have you been?
I said Mama, I've been busy at home worrying
She said: Well you know, your poor old uncle died
I said: 'I got tears of my own that need their crying
I ain’t got the time to worry about reality
I'm busy dreaming up tragic potentialities
Always prepared for any trouble unseen'

Thanks to the loneliness in me
The loneliness in me, that loving misery
My only friend in a world of unpredictability
I sit up on my worried throne in a queendom that I rule alone
Now that's the loneliness in me

The big boss called saying: Where have you been?
I said: I over slept, my tire's flat, and poor uncle died again
She said: Well, you know, you outta be on time
I said: 'Time is a social construct used to keep us all in line
Like a mouse on a wheel, I signed my life before I read
Now I'm picking up pennies to pay down the interest on my shed
But I'll be the richest girl in that cemetery

Thanks to the loneliness in me
The loneliness in me, oh that loving misery
My only friend in a world of social in-security
I sit up on my worried throne in a queendom that I rule alone
Now that's the loneliness in me

Nashville called saying: Where have you been?
I said: 'I've been perfecting my domesticated grin'
They said: Well, you know, we'd like to offer you a deal
You don't have to pay your dues, but you gotta pay the bill
We'll work on your image, and we'll draw you a crowd
'Cause if no one hears your record drop, does it make a sound?
No thanks, I'll pass, I got my ego naturally

It's just the loneliness in me
The loneliness in me, oh that loving misery
My only friend and my very best, worst enemy
I sit up on my worried throne in a queendom that I rule alone
Now that's the loneliness in me

It's just the loneliness in me
It's just the loneliness in me
I guess it's just the loneliness in me
