The Tide Hits

Morris 8

Safe again from the world outside
I've made home again in time
To tune in to the electron gun
Playing tetris with my mind

Shiny faces glisten by me
In a touch-free zone I'm told
To carry on, like nothing's wrong
Even though it hurts inside

And the tide hits and I can't escape
It sinks into my shoes
I get wet, I get messed up
And I feel like breaking loose
And the walls scream and the paint peels
And there's a fire on the bridge
It's just another momentary itch

To the stars and round the bend
No time to see our selves again
Digging deep won't help you sleep
But I can be your surface friend

Untouched bases flying by
Aren't up in the airless sky
Where we thought that we first met
That part isn't over yet

All I ask is to be alone
In my secret safety zone
Free from all my pressing needs
Tending to my lunar weeds

The paint peels, the pain heals....

Someday I will come back down
To where you've landed on this ground
Docking for a day or more
Without a treaty or a clause

Roaming through unmarked terrain
To the stars and back again
Digging deep won't help you sleep
But I can be your surface friend
