The song is about the patronising practice of "sponsoring" children from poor countries (usually Africa)
by giving money to the catholic school/church which was supposed to go the countries in question and the donor
got a photo of the person who they would "name"....most of the money stayed within the churches and
precious little ever actually helped the people themselves.
