Wild Rose

Lacy J. Dalton

I could have done it easy
Gone down this road in style
I could’ve had the diamonds
And bought them with a smile
I might have been the Lady
Of as upright millionaire
Coulda done it easy
But it would not have been fair

In my heart I always knew
What I was meant to be
And in a stately mansion
I never could be free
So I forsook the diamonds
And all the pretty clothes
And I chose the life instead
Of a Wild and Ramblin’ Rose

Oh, but out here on the fringes
Where the wayward breezes blow
There are places where a cultivated flower
Could never grow
I have put down roots amongst the rocks
Heaven only knows
I have always been a Wild Rose

Mama cried the day I left
She did not understand
How I could ever make it
In this world without a man
But Daddy he just smiled at me
‘Cause deep down in his soul
He knew the sun would shine upon
A Wild and Ramblin’ Rose

Oh, but out here on the fringes
Where the wayward breezes blow
There are places where a cultivated flower
Could never grow
I have put down roots amongst the rocks
Heaven only knows
I have always been a Wild Rose

I have always been a Wild Rose
