The Frozen Logger

Tom: G

G D7 G
As I stepped out one morning into a small café

                 C G D7 G
A forty year old waitress to me these words did say

                            D7 G
She said I see sir you’re a logger and not just a common bum

                   C G D7 G
Cause nobody but a logger stirs his coffee with his thumb

               D7 G
My lover was a logger there's none like him today

                               C G D7 G
If you'd pour a little whiskey upon it he’d eat a bale of hay

                 D7 G
My lover came to see me twas on one freezing day

                  C G D7 G
He threw his arms around me and broke three vertebrae

               D7 G
I saw my lover leaving a trudging through the snow

              C G D7 G
A-going gaily homeward at forty-eight below

                     D7 G
The weather tried to freeze him it tried its level best

                            C G D7 G
At a thousand degrees below zero he buttoned up his vest

                          D7 G
It froze clear through to China it froze to the stars above

                           C G D7 G
At a million degrees below zero it froze my logger love

                 D7 G
And so I lost my logger and to this cafe I come

                     C G D7 G
And here I wait till someone stirs his coffee with his thumb
