We're closer to the future I can see the path we're on We are not kings controlling castles We're a sorry line of pawns I feel the stinging retribution Of short-sighted legacy If we don't change it fast And make it last We may just cease to be Cowering in our hovels Staring at our t.v. Sets We do not mourn our lost humanity How soon we do forget We celebrate our situation Making lethargy our creed Sing complacency as anthem We forget the things we need And it's always just a dream, living in better days No it's not always as it seems, living in better days Are you feeling it come over? Well I've got a bit to say about that There's an angriness I know Why can't they look at their ways? Where the light seems to nearly all but fade Search the skies for some redemption But it never seems to come We could stare up there forever But we'd only see the sun There's no benevolent messiah Coming to deliver us We must believe ourselves Invent ourselves Or wither into dust Think of what a God would want Who could create all this Would he want us to surpass him Or force us merely to exist? I can't conceive our evolution Culminating into faith Where we can buy our absolution At some ritual debate And it's always just a dream, living in better days No it's not always as it seems, living in better days Are you feeling it come over? You know I've got a thing to say about that It's much easier to cover They won't come walkin my way Believing in everything they held If I could just slowly change the way you are And stare back at the shimmering blade Each of us know well the consequence of decisions I'm not a prophet, I just walk to the beat of a different drum I only say with the light of promise overhead With secular help I know, we may just find our way We forget to seize the moment then We (can) only hope to change the way you are Then you have only you to blame We may just find better days
