Perfect Weather For a Crime

Helena Deland

I shiver with delight
Tonight’s the perfect weather for a crime
The air’s so thick it sticks to you
Easy layer to break through
The street lights flicker earily
Wet pavement reflects the trees

We slither down the avenue
You ask me if I’d think of you
I don’t know

We wish away this weekday night
Looking for an acolyte
We let go every other day
Mess it up and watch it sway
It is not a waste of time
To want what can’t be mine
I do it for the sake of it alone
At a distance, on my own

We slither down the avenue
You ask me if I’d think of you
I don’t know

I shiver with delight
Tonight’s the perfect weather for a crime
