At The First Fall Of Snow

Hank Williams Jr.

I talked with a stranger so sad and forlorn
His garments were second all tattered and town
He told me this story of sorrow and woe
His heart met to heaven at the first fall of snow
He spoke of his angel a dear little baby girl
He loved her every footstep he loved her every curle
But she was called away to heaven just one year ago
The angels came for her at the first fall of snow
He still have the dolly the one that she used to love
He held and caressed it and he gazed up above
He whispered my little baby you're waitin' there I know
And daddy's gonna bring you your dolly at the first fall of snow
And there as I listened my eye was filled with tears
I knew that she was the biggest part of this poor broken man's happiest years
His frail body trembled and he spoke soft and low
Lord please let me be with my little baby at the first fall of snow
I patted his shoulder my feeling's too high he couldn't know I was crying inside
I smiled as we parted cause he didn't know
That we both lost our baby at the first fall of snow
