The Traveler

Don Francisco

Tom: Am

 G
The day dawned in confusion
    A
Like a nightmare with no end
      D A
Tired and dreary colors
    C G
Ragged hopes that wouldn't mend

The grief and fear of death
                 A
Just seemed to hang across the sky
          D
And the pain just kept on burnin'
               G
Though the tears had all been cried

[Verse 2]

We were talkin' as we journeyed
           A
Toward a quiet country town
D
When another traveler asked us
        C G
Why we seemed so sad and down

It was like a dam had burst inside
       A
As I spoke my grief and woe
G Am
Amazed that someone leavin' there
        D G
Could somehow still not know

[Verse 3]
          Em
But the traveler called us foolish men
     A
And dull and slow of heart
         F
And he showed us from the Scriptures
           D
God had planned it from the start
          Em Bm
But it wasn't till the evening
  Am
That our eyes were opened there
                         C
And we knew that it was Jesus
                       G
But He vanished in the air

[Verse 4]
     Em
We rushed back to Jerusalem
      A
To tell the others there
     F
They said "we have seen Him too"
           D
There was excitement everywhere
         Em
Nearly shouting to each other
          Am
As the realization grew
      C Am C Am
When all at once He spoke to us
D A D
"Peace be unto you"

[Verse 5]

E
We started back in terror
         A
For His radiance filled the place
       F
The light was all around Him
           D
And was shining from His face
         E
But then He smiled a smile of love
       Am
That left no cause for doubt
      C
And then because He knew our hearts
       D G
He spoke our feelings out

[Verse 6]

"Why are you so troubled?
A
Why are you in fear?
D C
See My hands and see My feet
            G
I Myself am here

Reach out now and handle Me
    A
Until you've all been shown
     D
My life is more than spirit
        G
For I'm here in flesh and bone"

[Verse 7]

       Em
Some lifted hands toward heaven
         A
And then knelt without a sound
F
Some just stood and stared at Him
       D
As if rooted to the ground
      Em
But I could not contain the joy
     Am
That flooded heart and soul
       C Am
It came rushing out in praises
G D Bm
I had no wish to control!
