In One Breath

Caleb Hyles

Clouds above just passing by
Bodies warmed with candle light
Strangers born and strangers die
Can you feel your insignificance?

Some great cause or some great blight
Not in creed nor in device
Drawn to something I can't find
Wonder is the greatest mystery

And in one breath, I don a crown of thorns
And in one breath, I feel my spirit soar
And in one breath, it's all made new
And in one breath, it can't be true
In just one breath, the pain inside will soon subside

Flooding waters fill a home
Wash away all that we know
True love's face, I can't recall
Memories, they fade, so do I

Terrified of what's to come
Paralyzed by not enough
Peace received by giving up
Even still, can wellness fill my soul?

And in one breath, I curse the ones I love
And in one breath, forgiven for what I've done
And in one breath, I feel betrayed
And in one breath, I should have stayed
In just one breath, the pain inside will soon subside

And at the end of it all, will I know more than now?
Will I stop questioning: Why?
And learning simply how
How to live with what I have and what's in front of me
I have relinquished control and that has set me free

In this life we lead, there's so much to see
(And at the end of it all, will I know more than now?)
(Will I stop questioning: Why?)
(And learning simply how)
Friends we've yet to make, fears we've yet to face
(How to live with what I have and what's in front of me)
(I have relinquished control and that has set me free)

Though our minds will fall, our love will tell the tale
(And at the end of it all, will I know more than now?)
(Will I stop questioning: Why?)
(and learning simply how)
Let salvation come, let redemption reign
(How to live with what I have and what's in front of me)
(I have relinquished control and that has set me free)

In one breath, I realize, I'm alive
And in one breath, somehow, there's still time
So much of life, I lay to rest
But there's still some not written yet
In one breath, just one breath
In one breath
