Black Car

Got Away Clean

Black Car

Late in the winter
Dad grabs a rifle from, the shelf
Mommy runs upstairs
Kitty cat stays under, the bed

One says don't do this
The other goes ahead
Father hits mother
Over the head

Cheapened times are lengthened
Try to steer them right
The culprit plays victim
The jury cannot see
This isn't justice at all
How he got away clean

Struck twice with sorrow
Played once more again, as if
Family is broken
He's coming I know it, knock on door

Dad curses mom out
He's drunk without doubt
Mother fears the worst
As she is knocked out

Frightened times are lengthened
Try to hide the pain
The culprit plays victim
And no one believes me
This isn't justice at all
How he got away clean

December's almost here
November will be gone
Turn up the radio
Try to hide the pity, in my house

Daddy says save me
He's caged in his lies
I do not care now
It's better that he dies
The nightmare is over
The trouble is gone
I'm happy all by myself

You were there to save me
Mom is home again
The culprit is nailed
And everyone can see
Frightened times are lengthened
Try to hide the pain
The culprit plays victim
And no one believes me
This isn't justice at all
How he got away clean
