Arbouretum

How Deep It Goes

Arbouretum

I stayed awake last night until it ended
So I could see the ocean opening

In black and deepest crimson of a dim and trembling glow
I walked out on the cold sand towards the wind

Never know the feeling of this moment
That reaches everything that can be known

If charlemagne went off the range and burned his own command
A shadow on the heart of christendom

I left my doubts
When I found out

Left it exposed
How deep it goes

The water's warmer than I thought it would be
It drew back and my heels sunk in a bit

An ancient birddog suddenly to pierce the shining skin
As sparrows grew to overtake the stars

What here rings true
Will wait for you
And if it’s lies
Distrust your eyes

What here rings true
Will wait for you
And if it's lies
Distrust your eyes
