It seems like only yesterday I sat and watched my Sugar play Chasing butterflies in the summer sun She went barefoot all day long and never thought of things wrong But all the doctors said it was sure to come She was my Sugar running through the flowers My sweet little Sugar Sugar in the flowers Her favorite place was in the flowers where she used to play for hours After her little leg stop running She brushed away the bumblebees and I'd hide the tears so she wouldn't see And guess about what was coming She was sweet Sugar in the flowers The autumn slowly rolled around and all the flowers stalled to the ground And all that was green turned to golden red Then Sugar couldn't even sit and knowing she'd never walk from it Broke my heart to lay her in her bed Poor little Sugar her little friends the flowers And place them at her bed side Sugar in the flowers Then Sugar's life like flower petals drooped and faded and then it left her And all of Sugar's pain was at an end So peaceful and so still she laid she seemed just like a dream away As I placed flowers in her little folded hands Sweet Sugar in the chapel surrounded by the flowers A covered patch out in the churchyard Sugar beneath the flowers Now spring is rolled round again and flowers bloom across the land Spring showers sprinkle down onto the ground And I know that it was a rule by God that it would be my Sugar's job To honor all the flowers in the gardens all around She was sweet Sugar Sugar in the flowers
